Title: Make your Mark
Location: Wollombi Village – Grays Inn #96
Artist Statement: “Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.” (Rachel Carson, Silent Spring).
Inspired by these words I wanted to depict the Australian spirit within this work; stoic, solid and always to “give it a go” – MAKE YOUR MARK.

2325 LOCALS OUTDOOR PRIZE

Artist: Merryn Hull
Title: Solar, 2021
Location: Wollombi Village – Gym Area, Negro Street #97
Artist Statement: The term solar refers to sources of energy from the sun. It also evokes the mythological solar deity depicted as the ‘eye’ of the sun god or goddess. In my work Solar, the sun’s energy converges in the form of a hidden ‘eye’ as a ‘circle of light’.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCY PRIZE

Artist: Akira Kamada
Title: Birth
Location: Undercliff Winery #112
Artist Statement: The catastrophic Currowan Fire of 2019-2020 destroyed 85% of our local forests. The wildlife may never recover, but the regeneration of the plant life is incredible. Within a year the burnt trees showed epicormic growth and the seeds of many species germinated much faster than usual.
